A simple starting point. In your review we’ll look at EPF, other savings and the plan that fits you.

How this is calculated

First-year monthly budget = today's monthly spending × (1 + inflation) ^ years to retirement.

Fund target = the total of each year’s spending in retirement, rising by inflation every year, with no investment return after you retire. At 0% inflation it is 12 × monthly spending × years in retirement.

Projected savings = current savings × (1 + return) ^ years, plus your planned end-of-month contributions growing at the same return.

Indicative gap = fund target − projected savings, never below zero. The additional monthly contribution is the extra end-of-month amount, above your planned contribution, that would close that gap under the same return.

How the example works out.

The tool opens with someone aged 40 who wants to retire at 60 and spend RM3,000 a month for 20 years, with inflation and return set to 0%. That's a target of RM720,000.

They already have RM120,000 put aside and save RM1,000 a month, which reaches RM360,000 by 60. The gap is RM360,000, so they'd need about RM1,500 more each month to close it under these assumptions.

What we'll add in your review

This simple scenario keeps every step visible. It assumes your spending keeps rising with inflation after you retire, and that your savings earn nothing once you stop working. Only include money you've set aside for retirement, and count each ringgit once. In a free 30-minute review, we'll add:

  • Investment return during retirement.
  • EPF withdrawals or pensions.
  • Healthcare costs later in life.
  • Tax and fees.
  • How many years of retirement to plan for.

Questions about this estimate

What return should I put in?

Start at 0% for the years before you retire, then try a few figures and watch the projected fund change. In your review, we'll talk through what's realistic for your timeline.

What if the gap looks big?

That's exactly what the tool is for. Try retiring a few years later, saving a little more each month or adjusting your budget, and watch the gap shrink. Then bring it to a review and we'll plan the next step together.

Should I include my EPF savings?

Include the part you've decided to use for this goal, and count it once. EPF has its own withdrawal rules, and we'll go through how they fit your plan in your review.
